The following motor connection information is for twelve (12) wire 3-phase A.C. motors as used on Lucas Machines. The control circuits of most Lucas machines of later years use twelve (12) wire motors to give the capability of starting and stopping the machine with the motor in a 'Wye' connection. The control circuitry changes the motor connections to a 'Delta' connection (on-the-fly!) a few seconds after the motor is started (or just before it is 'plugged' to a stop). MOST of the control panel assemblies and motors were supplied capable of operation at either 230 or 460 volts. The following table shows the wiring connections at the motor for each voltage:
For LOW voltage (Parallel windings):
Panel Wire No. Motor Line No.
1T1 ----------------- T1 & T7
1T2 ----------------- T2 & T8
1T3 ----------------- T3 & T9
1T10 ----------------- T10 & T4
1T11 ----------------- T11 & T5
1T12 ----------------- T12 & T6
-----------------------------------------------------------
For HIGH voltage (Series windings):
Panel Wire No. Motor Line No.
1T1 ----------------- T1
1T2 ----------------- T2
1T3 ----------------- T3
1T10 ----------------- T10
1T11 ----------------- T11
1T12 ----------------- T12
